About Us

Lake Tahoe Flight School is located in Northern California, amidst the shores of beautiful Lake Tahoe. LTFS operates under Far Part 61 FAA rules and offers a variety of flight training programs, such as the Private, Instrument, and Commercial ratings, as well as, Biennial Flight Reviews, Instrument Proficiency Checks,  and Mountain Flying checkouts.

Raquel Norton, along with CFII Tim Shankland,  started LTFS in 2010, with one 181 HP Piper Archer II and a single desk and chair in the terminal building. Raquel, owner and operator of LTFS, and pilot, earned both her Bachelor and Master of Science Degrees in the Health Sciences which she used to become a California Credentialed High School Teacher.  Having been a life-long native to the Sierra Nevada Mountains and a local south shore resident, Raquel realized South Lake Tahoe had everything to offer except for a flight school. She wanted to create an opportunity for the young and old to learn how to fly safely  in the mountains and/or to prepare those for a career in the skies.
